What’s Body Image got to do with it?
Let’s talk about body image. Almost everybody has something about their body that they don’t like. For many people, it’s a minor issue, no big deal. But some people have a major issue with their body image. It affects how they live and their happiness.
Take a moment and listen to the words of the immortal Joe Cocker singing “You are so beautiful.” Each of us is totally beautiful. Our body image is part of self-perception. It is totally natural. But it is not something that should be negatively viewed.
As a massage therapist, I have massaged thousands of bodies over the past eight years. Some people struggle outwardly with these issues. Their body image is such an issue that they don’t think anybody else can accept them.
How can massage improve body image?
The paradox here is that massage can really help with body image issues. Experiencing a great massage makes us feel better, and also more fun to be around. Something unexpected happens – when our bodies felt better we felt better about our bodies.
